Ginger may be known for its spicy kick and distinct flavor, but did you know it’s also good for you? Confucius was said to eat ginger with every meal and, in the 5th century, ginger was grown and carried on Chinese ships to prevent scurvy.

Ginger contains gingerols, which have been used for thousands of years to treat nausea, arthritis, and other ailments. Gingerols are found in the natural oils of the ginger root. Ginger shots are made by extracting raw juice from fresh ginger root, which means a single ginger shot each day can provide you with these health benefits.

Ginger has potent anti-inflammatory properties

The bioactive compound gingerol is an anti-inflammatory that helps reduce swelling in joints and muscles. As such, it has proven to be an effective treatment for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Ginger can also help improve the symptoms of those suffering from asthma, diabetes, colitis, and even Alzheimer’s.

Ginger contains powerful antioxidants

Gingerols on its own contains antioxidant properties. However, ginger also contains zingerone, sesquiterpenese, shogaols, and paradols, which are also potent antioxidants. These compounds protect the cells in your body from damage caused by free radicals. Basically, this means they help purge your body of toxins and keep it healthy.

Ginger has cancer-fighting properties

Several studies (including this one from 2015) have shown that the high levels of antioxidants in ginger may offer protection against breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and ovarian cancer.

Ginger can provide relief from nausea and indigestion

Ginger has long been used as a treatment for indigestion and upset stomachs. Ginger speeds up how quickly the stomach empties, providing quick relief from the pain and discomfort of indigestion. However, this particular property has also proven effective in a wide range of other applications, from a hangover remedy to relief from nausea brought on from surgery or chemotherapy.

Ginger promotes good cardiovascular health

A study published in 2017 concluded that people who include more ginger in their diet are less likely to develop chronic heart disease or high blood pressure.
