Some of Our Favorite Picks from Natural Products Expo West

A large building with a sign that says passion on it

Last week, Plascene was delighted to once again man a booth for Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA. We participated in last year's virtual Expo West, but there's a lot to be said for engaging with people face-to-face.

For those of you who might be unfamiliar with Natural Products Expo West, it is the leading trade show in the natural, organic, and healthy products industry. We got to meet with a lot of ingenious people behind some of the fascinating products on display. What follows is a short list of some of our favorite vendors of protein powders, collagen powders, and other supplements.

Natreve

Three jars of hair products are displayed on a website.

The groovy folks at Natreve are best known for their protein powders, which not only come in an insane variety of flavors (French Vanilla Wafer Sundae or Peanut Butter Parfait, anyone?) but are also available in vegan and Keto options. In addition to their powders, they also offer dietary supplement bars to boost your immunity, relieve your stress, and even help you fall asleep. Natreve prides itself on being the “world’s first plastic and carbon neutral wellness company.” Sustainability is a cause that is near and dear to our heart, so we’re always delighted to shout out to companies like Natreve that take it seriously.

Body Nutrition

A row of bottles of supplements are lined up on a website.

Body Nutrition founder Greg Simek set out to create a protein supplement that was affordable, used high-quality ingredients, and—most importantly—tasted great! While his original concoctions were for his own personal use, he began making them for his family and friends and—eventually—for purchase by consumers. Over the past decade, Greg has expanded his line of supplements to include whey- and plant-based protein powders as well as a watermelon-flavored BCAA powder that’s designed to help you recover, refuel, and hydrate.

MANTRA Labs

There are three different flavors of rice protein powder.

Founded in Austin, TX in 2020, MANTRA Labs doesn’t just sell powders—they sell a “chrono-nutrition” system that’s designed to match your needs throughout every part of the day. There’s RISE to wake you up and help you focus, GO to give you a needed midday boost, and REST to help you wind down and sleep. They also offer SUPER GREENS to give you an immunity boost and HYDRATE to replenish your electrolytes. All of the products from MANTRA Labs are plant-based and totally vegan.

Vital Proteins

While Vital Proteins does offer a wide selection of powders, supplements, and gummies, their focus is on ingestible collagen. According to founder Kurt Seidensticker:

“[N]utrient-rich foods don’t provide enough of the amino acids needed for the body to naturally produce collagen… It only made sense to share collagen’s hair, skin, nails, and joint benefits with others so they, too, could reach their full potential and upgrade their wellness routines with every scoop, stir & sip.”

GoodBelly Probiotics

GoodBelly is a line of probiotic juice drinks and powders from NextFoods. For those who are a little hazy on the concept of probiotics, it’s pretty simple—they are living microorganisms that have a beneficial effect on your body when taken in adequate amounts. GoodBelly is all about balancing the microflora in your belly to keep the harmful bacteria in check and help keep your immune system strong. If you’re curious about the science behind GoodBelly Probiotics, be sure to check out their website.

LIFEAID

LIFEAID makes 16 specially-formulated blends in ready-to-drink and powder forms. Founded in 2009 by Orion Melehan and Aaron Hinde (who met at a CrossFit box in Santa Cruz, CA), the goal of FIRSTAID was to provide a health-conscious alternative to high-sugar, high-caffeine soft drinks as well as the caffeine-laden energy drinks and sports drinks available at the time. LIFEAID offers drinks for brain boosting, wellness, sports recovery, daily calm, and restful sleep. Their FITAID line has been the Official Recovery Drink of the Reebok CrossFit Games since 2017.

PET Plastic for Packaging Powders

Straight-sided PET plastic jars are ideal for packaging protein, collagen, and other supplement powders. The containers have wide mouths, which makes them ideal for being outfitted with plastic scoops (which, in turn, helps with the precise measurements required for mixing with liquids). The shape is simple and ideal for wrap-around labels. And as will all of our PET and rPET options, they are lightweight, durable, and 100% recyclable.
